Nurse
For 20 years I've performed community engagement work. My work always led back to how a healthy body and mind makes a strong foundation. In 2015 I decided to dive deep and do the work to become a Registered Nurse. The road was filled with several challenges. But now with MSN, RN behind my name, I can tell you based on the best evidence that our bodies are truly great by design. The compassion that comes with nursing is second nature to me, patient advocacy is truly the best part of my work. I'm proud to take my work into my community, and work for better outcomes in healthcare.
Community Educator
In the late 90s I left my comfort zone in the DC/Maryland area to travel across the world as a Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa. I overstayed my welcome and spent years working with women's groups, learning and telling stories by the fire, and practicing languages. One of my first days in country a baby I wore wrapped around me peed and my dress was soaked in the back. The women called it my baptism. Since then, I love working with women from all over the world. For years I have specialized in transferring information, and resources to meet community level needs. Passionate Doula
Childbirth is my passion. I am the mother of 3 son's born naturally in a hospital setting. My mom (also a nurse) was my doula. Lamaze helped me prepare. Without education and support the vulnerability and pain of birth could have caused a totally different outcome. Today given the maternal mortality crisis among Black women in the US, it is critical that birthing women have a right to quality childbirth education with support persons that they choose.
